The Bar Convent Café is well known locally for its relaxing atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and peaceful, secluded garden.

The Bar Convent Café is the perfect place to meet family, friends or colleagues and on a fine afternoon what could be nicer than to sit in our peaceful garden enjoying afternoon tea just a short walk away from the bustle of the historic sites of York.

We are open Monday to Saturday for Breakfast, Morning Coffee, Lunch or Afternoon Tea. We offer a fresh daily selection of tempting Homemade Soup, Cakes and Scones. Sandwiches made to order and our 'Specials' Board changes regularly with tempting new dishes and mouth-watering desserts from our experienced chef, Val Russell.

We endeavour to cater for a variety of diets including Vegetarian and Gluten Free and we are able to cater for special requests in many instances because we cater on site. There are always gluten free sandwiches and cakes available and all menu items are clearly marked 'GF' for your convenience.  The Bar Convent is also host to one of the largest Gluten Free Fairs in the UK annually, in partnership with Coeliac UK.  We are very aware and some of us have family members who follow a Gluten Free diet.

Speciality Fair Trade Coffees are now also available from our new ‘bean-to-cup’, coffee machine.  We also source our Fruit and Vegetables and our Fresh Meat and Fish from local Yorkshire suppliers and aim to be as ethical as practically possible (using only Free Range eggs in our baking for example).
