Candlelit Victorian Christmas - Dec 19, 2007
Staff at the Bar Convent were joined by St Aelred's choir on the 18th December and by All Saints School Sixth Form Choir on the 19th December in celebrating Christmas with stories of Victorian traditions and etiquette, carols around the piano and christmas poems and readings from the Victorian period.
This was accompanied by christmas refreshments in the interval and a fun tombola and raffle.
Our thanks to those who supported us for these events and who helped us to raise £800 over the two nights on behalf of the Bar Convent Trust charity.
We will be hosting another Victorian Christmas next year but we will be aiming to add to the performancesto keep the event fresh and festive. Please watch our events pages for more information nearer the time.

Christmas Carol Concert - Dec 14, 2007
Once again the Friends of the Bar Convent hosted a successful Christmas Carol Concert with the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir helping us to raise funds on behalf of the Bar Convent Trust charity.
The beautiful neo-classical chapel of the convent is the perfect setting for the wonderful voices of this all male choir led by conductor and soloist . Our thanks to the choir and all those who steadfastly support us for this event every year.
Due to the continuing success of this event and the fact that there are just not enough tickets to host everyone who would like to attend this event the Bar Convent Trust will be hoping to host more than one choral/musical event in the chapel next Christmas. Please watch out for further announcements on the Events page.

CANDLELIT VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS - Dec 20, 2006
Our first ever Victorian Christmas event was sold out by September.
Over 50 people joined us in the Main Hall for Carols sung by 10 members of St Aelred's choir, and poems and stories read by our Victorian hostess, Business Manager Jo Dodd.
With fascinating insights into the origins of many of our Christmas traditions, the evening was topped off with mulled wine and Christmas nibbles.
No doubt we will be celebrating again next year so watch the diary for more details.

FUND RAISING DINNER - Sep 27, 2006
Set in the Main Entrance Hall the Friends of the Bar Convent organised this evening of refined dining to raise funds for the Bar Convent Trust.
The Hall provided a stunning backdrop to an evening of gentle chatter and smooth jazz and the catering team produced a delightful 3 course menu to whet the Friends' appetite. We raised over £400 for the Trust and we hope to repeat these dinners on a regular basis in the near future, so please watch the Events page for more information if you would be interested in joining us.

Poetry Event - Aug 2, 2006
Local poet, Oz Hardwick, has appeared at the Edinburgh Festival and can be heard regularly on radio York and at local Aesthetica and River Lines events.
For this event Oz presented a selection of readings from his new book ’Carrying Fire’, which will be available for sale in local bookshops from September 2006.
This was the first poetry launch we have hosted at the convent and it was a great success, with over 30 people attending the reading in the Main Entrance Hall.
Oz also presented poems from his previous collection, ‘Walking with Ghosts’ and musical accompaniment was provided by Paul Coleman on guitar. A cheese and wine supper completed the social part of the event and we have had such wonderful feedback that we hope to host similar events in the next year for other local poets and writers.
