Friends of the Bar Convent in York...

The 'Friends' are a group of people united by their affection for the Convent and its community. Their purpose is to help to preserve the historic Bar Convent, its ministry and all that it represents.

There are presently just over 100 Friends, managed by a Committee and the Business Manager. This Committee meets three or four times a year, principally to organise social events which, together with our subscription income, help to support the work of the community and the Bar Convent Trust and Enterprises.

Friends Events

In the past this support has included provision of the Courtyard Garden , much used by the Conference members, wheel chair ramps, the printing of Sister Gregory's booklets to do with the Convent and its history, the rebinding of books for the Antique Library, and a contribution towards the lift which provides disabled access to the first floor.

The highlight of our social events, which have included concerts, barbecues and presentations, is the annual Christmas Service held in the beautiful eighteenth century chapel. For members who live at a distance, the bi-annual newsletter and AGM notices keep them informed of all that is happening. (insert chapel concert image)
