Staying at the Bar Convent is a totally unique experience. Warmth and hospitality, together with the values and ethos of the staff and surroundings, will have you totally charmed.

Ideally situated for both leisure and business all visitors receive a personal welcome from the Housekeeper, Lesley Baines, her staff or the Sisters of the Bar Convent and are escorted to their room and shown the facilities.

18 Guest bedrooms situated on three floors cater for a maximum of 30 guests - 9 single, 4 twin, 1 Double & 1 family room, plus 1 Double, 1 triple & 1 twin en suite. Each room has its own hand-basin, towels, liquid soap, tissues & hairdryer.

Check In
Check in is from 12 noon and must be before 9.30pm unless special arrangements have been made. When you have finalised your travel arrangements please advise us of your time of arrival by telephoning the Housekeeper's Office on 01904 464902 during office hours (9am - 5pm) or leave a message on our answer phone and we will call you back to confirm.

If you are arriving between 5pm and 9.30pm the front door will be locked for security reasons, so please ring the door bell located on the left hand side of the door and the Evening Receptionist will admit you.

Please note that after 9.30pm we have no reception service. If an emergency or unexpected occurrence causes you a delay in your travel plans please contact us urgently to make arrangements. Otherwise we cannot guarantee that we will be able to admit you to your room if you have not made a prior arrangement with us.

Catering
Breakfast is served in the café from:

07.45am - 10.00am Monday - Saturday
08.15am - 10.00am on Sunday

Tea/coffee making facilities are also provided in each room but we also have fully equipped kitchens on each floor for guests to use should you wish to cater for yourself to a greater extent.

For those who prefer to spoil themselves with home cooked food we have an in-house Café for lunches and morning and afternoon tea.

A selection of homemade meals can also be requested for the evenings. Please speak to the Housekeeper to order.

Special Occasions
For special occasions or that extra warm reception bowls of fruit, flowers, chocolates or our own special Bar Convent wine can be ordered from the Housekeeper by special request. Please call or email us to make arrangements.

Facilities
There are ample bathrooms, toilets and showers available on each floor and all towels and linen are supplied. Sittings rooms with TVs are located on the 1st and 2nd floors, there is a small snooker table and board games in the Recreation Room.

Disabled Access
Wheelchair access via a large lift leads to the disabled toilet on the 1st floor. The passenger lift serves the 1st and 2nd floors, but access to the 3rd floor is via the stairs.

Business Travellers
Single rooms or double rooms for single use are available at competitive rates for business travellers.

Plated meals can be arranged from the café and WiFi, fax and email facilities can be arranged via our Reception Office.

The Guest Books in your rooms will provide further information of local attractions and amenities or you can find out more through our weblinks area or from the notice boards and leaflet displays around the Bar Convent. Staff will be happy to help with directions, recommendations or general local knowledge. Please ask.

Car Parking
There is a Pay & Display Long Stay car park just opposite the Bar Convent on Nunnery Lane. This car park now has facilities to Park and Pay by phone on arrival. The number to call is 0870 4283854. Quote location number 7709 and you will be able to select the number of hours you wish to pay for using your credit/debit card. For more details about this service please click here.

If this car park is full then alternative parking is available at the railway station or by using the Park and Ride car park at Askham Bar. For more details please click here.

Group bookings
In the case of group bookings a bond will be required i.e. valid credit card details or a sum of £100. This money will be refunded at the end of the visit provided the Housekeeper is satisfied with the condition of the allocated rooms. Any accidental damage that requires attention will be charged at commercial rates.
