The Bar Convent is run by the General Manager with a team of 30 staff, supported
by a further 20 volunteers.

The Hall, Museum and Shop are all staffed through the hard work and good will of these volunteers, who will generally give 2 hours of their time each week on a regular rota to help us greet and serve our customers.

We often need new volunteers to help us to keep these services  available and ensure that all our visitors receive a warm and friendly welcome.

Vacancies will be advertised on the volunteers' board and around the convent. If
you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer you can either apply at the Reception Office in the first instance or complete the Volunteers Application Form
on the website. Your completed form should then be sent to:

The General Manager
Bar Convent
17 Blossom St
York
YO24 1AQ

If possible the General Manager or a team member will then have a brief
discussion with you regarding previous experience and suitability for the role and once your role has been agreed your details are passed to Reception to update
the Volunteers Rota and Address database.

When you arrive on your first day a member of staff/the General Manager will be available to introduce you to the team, brief you on your duties and carry out any training you need. The responsibilities of each of these roles are:

SHOP:

Assist customers in their selection and purchase.
Keep displays topped up and tidy.
Input sales to the cash till.
Record sales in the daily manual ledger.

HALL:

To direct visitors to the Museum, Café, Shop and Chapel.
Keep brochure displays topped up and tidy.
In the absence of a Guide to accompany visitors to the museum and explain the displays in brief, direct them to the Chapel and, if required, accompany visitors with spiritual interest who request to see the relic of Margaret Clitherow.
